This Week In TurtleCoin (FEB 10, 2019)

In this better late than never edition of the weekend roundup, we test our skills of survival while waiting for the Comcast guy!

Developer Updates

TurtleCoin + Alpine + Docker – I’ve managed to get the TurtleCoin binaries to compile on Alpine. There were a couple of issues that were preventing this. The first issue is that ucontext was deprecated in POSIX which musl adheres to. Thankfully someone had created a library that solves the problem. The second issue was that musl has a PAGE_SIZE macro defined in limits.h that was conflicting with a parameter used on slow-hash.c. This has now been changed to page_size in the core, resolving the conflict. So far, I’ve created three images. The first image, which is meant to be a starting point for your own images, builds all the binaries in Alpine then copies them to a scratch container resulting in an image size of 22.6MB. The zedwallet container comes in at 7.96MB and the TurtleCoind image, which includes checkpoints, is only 90MB. I plan to create a series of docker-compose files that will tie them together to help accomplish various tasks. You can view the images on Docker Hub: https://hub.docker.com/r/andrewnk/turtlecoin or on github: https://github.com/andrewnk/turtlecoin-docker – andrew | trtl.rocks

Turtle Simulator UE4 – Turtle Simulator has now been uploaded to GitHub! If you want to help with the project, or if you if you are interested in game design, check out the code and give me a message in #Dev_gaming channel! Im looking for anyone who knows: 3d Modeling/ Animation/ UV maps. Coding in UE4, Blueprints or C++ Music /Audio Ideas / Level design It’s a massive project I’ve undertaken so any help takes something off my to-do list. Thanks in advanced! Looking forward to see what we can make together! Oiboo P.s No minimum skill level, all help will be appreciated! – Oiboo

TRTL.rocks – I’ve made several improvements and changes to the website. I made a silly logic error that caused the initial load time to vary drastically or stall altogether. If the node or pool API is not accessible, then it won’t be shown on the site. If you don’t see your node or pool in the list, this is most likely the reason. I’ve cleaned up the line chart, including formatting y-axis and point labels, which should help readability. I’ve added tooltips to most table headers that describe what the column represents. These can be turned on or off by toggling the Tooltips switch on the bottom right hand of the screen. Finally, I’ve added the ability to switch the line chart between live and historical data. On initial load, the live mode will be enabled and updates are displayed whenever the data is pushed from the database. I’m in the process of rewriting iburn’s blockexplorer-cache library to use sequelize, which will help me move on to the block explorer portion of the site. – andrewnk | trtl.rocks

500,000 TRTL – Currently I am seeking a pair of PHP hands that have the skill to implement some necessary connections to a particular API database, and implement it into a WordPress website. Not completely being able to foresee all the tasks but I believe it will be a one-time effort, realisable in a day, spread over two weeks. Please PM me for more information. – 476190.47619047

1,218,917 TRTL – Will buy developer license for Turtle wallet app – mikeykones

The Celestial community called out.. And the call was answered. We couldn’t save the existing chain, so we re-forked, gave it a new name, and launched Excelsior on Sunday the 3rd of February. All the same network settings the previous dev. gave it, just a new name, logo, and updated codebase.
If you don’t know Celestial; it was the first coin using the CN Soft Shell algorithm, by TurtleCoin (now with Lite Blocks by Rashed!).

This Christmas in TurtleCoin 2018

This Christmas we received the blessing of the community’s progress and our mutual friendship with other networks. TurtleCoin users are quickly becoming the most helpful crew in the industry, and that’s a hat we are happy to wear any time 😀

Here’s to another great year, and a good time this New Year for all of our new friends who’ve just joined us!

Developer Updates

Core Update at block 1,200,000 !! Miners! Service Operators! Users! This is your update! Tell a friend!

What is a fork? -> Click here to see our article about updates like these and what they mean for you!

1,200,000 – This update is a big one, and unlike our normal fork upgrade schedule, this one packs a little bit more of a punch than others in the sense that we have a new hashing algo variant we’ve been working on called CN Turtle. This new algo affects miners two different ways, GPU miners will see about a 4x increase in power, and CPU miners will see about a 6x increase in power. This just means more heat for most of you but for us it means another upgrade without ASIC, and for the first time it means TurtleCoin is branching out from just using whatever Monero and Aeon use. We’re doubling down on our commitment against Nicehash and ASIC, and have already started research on the next PoW change for when that time comes. Everyone probably also wondering, but if you’re on XMR Stak or XMRig, you’re fine, with more compatibility for others coming soon. – TRTL Core Team

This wall of text means one thing- We’ve got you covered. This is our commitment to a 2019 without ASIC.

https://github.com/turtlecoin/turtlecoin

solo miner improvements – If you’ve ever used the solo miner, you might know it’s a little ‘meh’. You need to know all the arguments to start the miner with, it doesn’t even output barely anything on the default log level, and the output is pretty verbose. One thing you might not be aware of is it actually by default only scans for a new block template every 30 seconds. So, a lot of the time you might be mining on an old block template when the daemon already has a newer template. This fixes that issue, so there should be a lot less orphans. Annoyingly, the windows network stack seems to hold open the closed connections for some time, so polling for a new template every second can end up exhausting the available sockets. I’m working on a fix for this by reusing the same connection. I know most people don’t use the solo miner, but this should help out projects which fork TurtleCoin and don’t have any pools up yet. – zpalm

Oiboo’s Game Emporium – Merry christmas and Seasons greetings to all! Thank you for your support this year. So far we have 11 amazing games made by our community! Well done everyone! I have nearly finished the tutorial section of the website, so hopefully we will have loads more games next year! As always any ideas you have or if you have a project you want featured email me @ info@Games.Turtacus.com or message me in #Dev_Gaming Oiboo – oiboo

New Turtle Game – I’ve started gitting gud with Godot game engine, following guides and exploring uncharted lands! Me and bunny will be working on new turtle games, coming out sometime 2019. Stay tuned! – Sajo8

Fork Watch!

Do you run a TRTL fork, or are you part of a fork community? Take a second to tell us a bit about your fork and get some exposure for your project!

Name of your TRTL fork :

DeroGold

Github link for your code:

https://github.com/derogold/derogold

What is special or new about your network?

The DeroGold Association is the future of crypto today and we welcome you aboard. An open source project since block number 1, DeroGold plans to be one of the most illustrious cryptocurrencies ever. Forking our coin from TurtleCoin and using their new CN-TURTLE hashing algorithm will be instrumental in helping us to achieve this goal.
Some specs of DeroGold include 100 trillion max supply, only 2 decimals, 10 second blocks, cutting-edge lite-blocks, and a wallet prefix of dg. It has been said to be very reminiscent of the early TurtleCoin days, since we have a low nethash and large block rewards with a lot of questions about our huuuuge supply.
Join our discord to learn more about us: http://derogold.gq
Special thanks to RockSteady, Zpalmtree, ExtraHash, and Bearybullish for their contributions toward the making of this cryptocurrency, I appreciate y’alls help.

Good news everyone! If you’re mining TurtleCoin with us at Cryptonote.Social, you’re now also (solo) mining Aeon through the wonders of “merged mining”. For now if you’re lucky enough to mine an Aeon block, you get to collect the full reward. Make sure you specify an e-mail address in your miner config so you’ll be notified of any Aeon blocks you mine.

Developer Community Updates

WalletShell GUI Wallet – With v0.3.3 release, WalletShell, the TRTL Gui Wallet has been declared stable and ready for public use to manage your TRTL assets. Since its last introduction, WalletShell has fixes lots of known bugs & glitches, performance & features enhancements, and lots of new features, here are some of them:
– Address book, which can be looked-up when you send/transfer TRTL, help avoid mistakes on typing/pasting recipient address
– Fast transaction history listing/sorting/searching
– Keyboard only operation, with help of keyboard shortcut & keyboard friendly inputs.
– Public node list, fetch daily from https://github.com/turtlecoin/turtlecoin-nodes-json/blob/master/turtlecoin-nodes.json.
-For node operator: You don’t need to worry that your node domain name starts with “z”, node list order will be randomized everytime user accessing node setting page, so each nodes has a relatively fair chance to be on top of the list.
– You can now export your transactions history to csv files for your reporting need. You can choose to export all transaction or to only export incoming or outgoing transaction.
– Desktop Notification for Incoming Transfer.
– Fusion tx to help you optimize your wallet inputs/outputs.
– WalletShell now have new Night/Dark theme, and is sets as default, you can still easily switch to Light/Green mode if you prefer
– Realtime node & network status monitoring: it will let you know and pause the sync process whenever the node you’re trying to connect can’t be reach, or when your machine disconnected from network.
– Utility: PaymentID and Integrated Address generator is there when you need it.
For more complete feature lists, please visit the Github repo here: https://github.com/turtlecoin/turtle-wallet-electron

TurtleCoin Test Suite – It takes a lot of effort to test all of the RPC calls to TurtleCoind and turtle-service each release. As anyone can tell you, give a lazy man a task and he’ll find an easy way to do it. Given this bit of wisdom, check out turtlecoin-test-suite written in Node.js for quick and simple RPC testing for those of us that want to spend more time coding and less time testing. – IBurnMyCD

https://github.com/turtlecoin/turtlecoin-test-suite

TRTL-CLI-py – I added a pools function! Use po or pools and get a full list of all the pools. Use po <name> and you’ll get detailed statistics of that pool! If you havent heard yet, there’s also a nodes ( or no) function! – Sajo8

https://github.com/turtlecoin/trtl-cli-py

Turtle Simulator – Version 0.2 is out now! Just a small update for you all! Various reported bugs have been fixed and a few new features added! The main addition is the Day and Night system so now we can add custom events on different days! TurtleEDU – For all 62 of you Students out there who enrolled in the beta program at TurtleEDU this week, thank you! For all of you who haven’t, you type *student in the chat and you’ll be given access to the EDU channels and you’ll be part of the Beta testers crew.
If you’re wondering what TurtleEDU is, here’s the details: We’re setting up TurtleEDU to help the community become more knowledgeable as users, and help people who want to know about dev stuff have an easy route to being a TRTL dev. If you type *student you get the student role and access to #edu-general and #edu-help channels. We’re teaching classes of real-world portable skills, but using TurtleCoin as the core example in each lesson, so the first thing you learn how to do when you become a developer is how to interact with our blockchain. – RockSteady

First class goes live for everyone on Dec 9!

Only 250 million max supply, monkeytips is a hot new cryptocoin with a very low total of atomic units having only 2 decimals. We wanted to share the monkeytips love with everyone so recently SoreGums helped code a rainmonkey to rain monkeytips on people in our discord chat! Join up for some fun 🙂 discord.gg/EAaKcCy

Name of your TRTL fork – FRED

Github link for your code  – https://github.com/fredenrg/FRED

What is special or new about your network?
An increasing population and the industrialization of emerging economies will have a huge impact on future global energy demands and the environment. The FRED Project is aimed at promoting the benefits of alternative energy generation at the consumer level. We believe this will help to reduce the associated environmental impacts of fossil fuel energy generation, and the effects of energy price increases on the consumer due to demand. In addition to promoting consumer energy generation, we are also exploring the possibilities of future alternative and free energy devices. The term “free energy” may sound impossible and some readers may have already run for the hills, but we believe there are devices out there (although not totally free) that have the potential to become mainstream. Why fork TurtleCoin? The reason for choosing TurtleCoin as our base fork was due to the incredible collaboration between the developers and the community. We believe TurtleCoin will be one of the most well developed and feature rich cryptonote coins. We are also looking for contributors of all levels, in all areas of development and promotion. http://fredenergy.org

Name of your TRTL fork – 2ACoin

Github link for your code – https://github.com/2acoin

What is special or new about your network? – Lower overall # of Blocks (17.91 million), slower emission rate, 10% pre-mine which will be donated to the NRA over the next 10 Years.
